Hack:
1. n. Originally, a quick job that produces what is needed, but not well.

From the Jargon File

Over the years I have written several short little scripts to do things. Nothing fancy but workable non the less. Often they have just been little experiments while learning languages or technologies. Feel free to use/adapt as appropriate. They should all be licensed under GPL v2. I welcome any feedback and/or patches for these poor examples of code.

Go to perl hacks, .emacs, or firewall

dotemacs

I am in the process of learning the kitchen sink also know as a text editor, EMACS. It seems to be given form for converts to the one true editor to post their .emacs files (the config file EMACS reads on start up) to demonstrate their understanding of the many braces that make up LISP. I guess its like marking territory :-)

Most of my dotemacs comes from Iain Georgeson who is definitely an EMACS magician. Most of my changes have so far been tweaks and cutting bits out I'm never going to use. Still it may evolve as I learn more.

The best place to get the dotemacs is directly from my CVSweb.

Firewall

If your not running a firewall when connected to the internet you are asking for trouble. If used several firewall scripts in my time including the well written Iridium firewall script. However as things come to pass (like upgrading to iptables) and your network configuration get complicated its usually best to roll your own. note: the traffic shaping does work but has not been integrated into the rest of the script yet

You can find the firewall on the CVSweb here.

If your looking for a more secure hardware firewall (or firewall appliance) can I just plug this one.
