Although the start of war was noted by Orwell he quickly moved back to documenting his small holding activities and egg production. However as the &lt;a class="reference external" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Expeditionary_Force_(World_War_II)"&gt;B.E.F.&lt;/a&gt; was beaten back to their eventual humiliation …&lt;/p&gt;</summary><content type="html">&lt;p&gt;It's interesting to see how much of a shock the &lt;a class="reference external" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunkirk_evacuation"&gt;Dunkirk Evacuation&lt;/a&gt; was to British. It's eerie reading along in real time but it also gives a wonderful insight to the development of attitudes to the war and how it was viewed at home.&lt;/p&gt;

In a thoroughly modern approach the diaries will come out in &amp;quot;real time&amp;quot; + 70 years in blog form.
